Baby Shower Cake

I found this picture and realized I had never posted it. It's a baby shower cake I made for Kevin's second cousin's friends....is that clear enough...good.

Here it is:

Success!

So the chocolate cake that I made for (now I can tell you who it was for) Brandon's surprise birthday party turned out great!! It was a little scary there for a little while because it's all chocolate....in August...in Texas!

But here is the final result:

I think it came out lovely. Everyone seemed to love it! And it didn't melt, which was definitely a plus!
So yay! One new technique tackled!

LEGO CAKE

I will also be making a LEGO cake this weekend. I am a little scared. Here are some examples I found on GOOGLE:

The Good
The Bad
The...WTF??
Be afraid. Be very afraid.

Ice Cream Cupcakes? Don't Mind If I Do!!

Check out this great ice cream cupcake recipe here

SWEET!

Fun With Chocolate

I was recently asked to make a cake for a suprise birthday party coming up...a guy's birthday. Guys cakes, I find, are challenging. But I LOVE a challenge! I love playing with new food mediums, and came across a bakery in Australia's blog where they use melted chocolate instead of fondant to give a more earthy look to cakes. The results are GORGEOUS, and I am SO anxious to try it. I will be making the cake next week, so I will post pics as soon as the finished product is ready...though it won't be until right before because a) I don't want to ruin the surprise, and b) the chocolate will be added last minute so it doesn't melt! Here is what I HOPE the finished product will (sort-of) look like:

This is my favorite. The detail with chocolate makes it look like a NYC skyline!
Love the simple white chocolate

This one is neat with the jagged edges.

BLUEBERRIES!

So I got these fresh Blueberries from my mother-in-law who got them from her friend who got them fresh from East Texas....sort of our own farm to market.

Now I have to decide what I will do with them. I think some of them will be frozen for later, some will taste good in a fruit salad, and some I want to use to bake some muffins, or bread or something more creative! Mmmm!!!

A Few Cakes From Last Year...

Adler's Third Birthday!!

These are the cupcakes for Adler's Third birthday. The top picture is the Pirate Cupcakes that I made for his class at school. In the middle are the Superhero Cupcakes at the party all arranged, and the bottom photo was taken just after I made them the night before. I was SO pleased with how they all came out!

My next project is to make Princess and the Frog Cupcakes for Adler's school fundraiser on Friday night. Should be fun! Photos to follow....

SHHHHH!!! It's a SECRET!

Not really. But Adler's teachers at school seem to think my cookie recipe is a winner. So here it is: the recipe that I got in the mail that was actually addressed to the previous owners (it came with a bunny rabbit cookie cutter!)

FAMOUS SUGAR COOKIE RECIPE:

1 Cup Butter (softened)
2/3 Cup Sugar

**blend together until smooth

1 egg
1 tsp Vanilla Extract
2 1/2 Cup Flour

**blend remaining ingredients

Bake at 350 degrees (or 375 if you are always in a hurry, like me!)

Use cookie press or cookie cutters and decorate!

Now, I like to decorate the lazy way with the squeezable cookie icing tubes that you can buy at the store. But there are plenty of cookie icing recipes online. Go with Martha. She can do no wrong!!

Enjoy!

Cut the Cake

Hey! So I was just reading a posting on one of my favorite blogs, Cupcakes Take The Cake, and it gave me a great idea for Adler's birthday party. In addition to Superhero cupcakes, I will also make Frosting Shots! Hello! For those of us who don't actually like cakes (even though I do enjoy baking them), this is the perfect idea. Adding it to my party planning list!
